In Partnership with Google.org

The NCBCE AI Fellows program, in partnership with Google.org, will generate a network of exceptional NC educators to serve as artificial intelligence (AI) leaders and mentors in their school communities. Through this experience, Fellows will implement advanced computer science and AI pedagogical strategies, introduce the latest in technological resources, and develop innovative curriculum and extracurricular activities. Collectively, these methods are poised to elevate AI education in North Carolina while creating expanded learning opportunities for students, sparking their interest and engagement with AI, and preparing them for high-demand careers.

Beyond their classrooms, Fellows will be leaders and mentors, providing valuable professional development resources for colleagues and conducting in-house training sessions that strengthen their school’s overall AI teaching capacity. With a strategic approach to building AI educational leadership within North Carolina schools, the AI Fellows program will create a powerful multiplier effect that impact school communities, businesses, and our state’s future workforce.

Selected Fellows will serve as AI leaders and mentors for their school community and may teach in any subject area within grades 6-12. Fellows will receive virtual and in-person trainings throughout the academic year, ongoing support and mentorship, a technology mini-grant, and a residential summer intensive training program in 2026.

The first cohort will begin September 2025. Applications for the 2026-27 cohort will be available in Spring 2026. For questions, please email megan.johnson@nc.gov.
