Unit Description
Anyone who works on a Help Desk is most likely to need in-depth knowledge of the Windows OS. Students may have some experience with using Windows, but this unit requires them to explore and develop deeper knowledge and specific skills for configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Windows.
The unit introduces command-line tools. These script-based tools may be unfamiliar to many students who are new to or just casual users of Windows. It can take time and practice for students to become comfortable with the commands and their correct syntax. Because there are often both GUI (Graphic User Interface) apps in Windows and command-line tools that complete similar tasks, be sure to give students plenty of time to practice both, but especially become familiar with the command-line tools and their syntax. New commands are introduced under each new topic, so students will get more practice using the Command Shell and running command-line tools in this unit and the next.
